Now that the weather is changing and we are finding ourselves out in the garden there is lots to do! One thing in particular on the to do lists are planting up our beautiful prized containers, window boxes, and decorative pots. So a few tid bits to note while trying to choose flowers and greenery for them are these three "commandments." You must have a Spiller, a plant that likes to trail and SPILL out or over the edging of your desired vessel. A Filler, a plant that takes up some space blooms out and FILLS in the container. And Lastly, the Thriller, the star of the show, and the plant that adds all the height and some oohs and ahhs. Cue Sia chanting we love cheap thrills! Too bad these Thrillers are usually not always budget friendly, however I am going to let you in on some naked truth, give you a trick to getting more bang for your buck and almost getting two for the price of one. The answer is PERENNIALS. Some of you may ask, what is a perennial? This is a plant that will come back year after year (if planted in the ground before winter). I love to use a good perennial as my Thriller in containers, because once the season is over and your pots have pittered out you simply find a nice space out in your landscape and dig it in. No money wasted and you get to enjoy it the next season in a new light and fill in more of your landscaping. YEE HAW!
Some of my top fave perennial thrillers are
1. Guara
Lavender
Foxgloves
Salvia
Liatris
Delphinium
Perennial Grasses
Hydrangeas
DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING NEW OR GO AGAINST THE GRAIN,
MAKE LIKE A WILDFLOWER HONEY!
Thank ya'll for listenin,
